Parasite director Bong Joon Ho is teaming up with Batman actor Robert Pattinson for a new sci-fi film coming from Warner Bros., according to Deadline. The movie is based on the upcoming novel Mickey7 from writer Edward Ashton, and it tells the story of a man sent to an ice world who can clone himself.
Pattinson plays Mickey7, an "expendable employee" who takes on risky jobs knowing he might die on the ice world of Niflheim. That's OK because Mickey7 can clone himself and retain most of his memories. However, after Mickey7 goes out on a job and is presumed dead, he returns to base to find a new clone, Mickey8, in his place, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bong is writing, directing, and producing the Mickey7 movie. Bong won Best Director for Parasite, which also won Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.
According to the report, Ashton gave Bong an unpublished copy of Mickey7 in 2021, and he was said to be interested in pursuing a movie version "immediately." It was reported that "every A-lister in their 30s was chasing the role" before Pattinson landed the part.
This would be Bong's second deal with Warner Bros., as he is also producing a Parasite TV series for HBO. As for Pattinson, he will be seen next as the Caped Crusader in The Batman, which releases in March. It remains to be seen if the film will be delayed due to growing Omicron cases.
