With PlayStation 4 and Xbox One entering a stage of maturity in their life cycles, the interest of industry, fans, and media are focused on watching the path that Sony and Microsoft will take in the coming years and the options they will offer to try to meet the expectations of players. The theme of exclusive titles or exclusive content that each console have has been present in recent years and Michael Pachter spoke recently on the subject.
In an interview by GamingBolt with Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, he discussed the issue of exclusives and exclusive temporary content with PS4 and Xbox One, which has been singled out as an important factor in the decision of the consumers, who in this generation have opted for PS4.
At the beginning the analyst addressed the alleged advantage that PS4 would have in terms of the market thanks to third-party titles that will have temporary exclusive content for the Sony console, in that sense, the analyst said the following:
"Well, it’s a good marketing gimmick. I think it’s kind of like, let’s say the first DLC pack for Call of Duty comes out 30 days early for PS4, well, if you don’t have a PS4, if you have an Xbox, and your friends have Xbox, it doesn’t matter. Because you’re not playing with PS4 people. So you’re all getting it the same day, even if it is 30 days later."
At the same time, Pachter considered that the offer of temporary exclusive content on consoles does not have such a significant effect on the market and does not influence the decision of those who do not yet have one. On the contrary, the analyst highlighted the role of exclusive games and in that sense stated that there is a game that few have taken into account and that could give a great surprise and influence the sales of Xbox One: PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
"The one exclusive we have forgotten about, which is also timed, clearly, is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and that will be a big deal. I don’t know what it will cost, I think it will be $30 or $40, but I think that will outsell most of those Japanese games on PS4, and that’s Xbox exclusive for a while- probably through the Holiday, and then it gets announced for PS4 next year, but that game will help sell systems. That game is incredible, and I can’t wait for it to hit consoles."
