Overwatch May Eventually Get A Map Editor; Will Let You Save Highlights In-Game This Summer-September 2024

If you're eager for more map variety in Overwatch, you'll probably be happy to learn that Game Director Jeff Kaplan explained on the official forums that a map editor is something Blizzard would like to release eventually.

However, you shouldn't expect it to be available shortly.

We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday. But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon. We have this on our long-term road map and believe heavily in user-made content. But there are many challenges ahead of us and it will be a very long road before our editor can be made available to the public.

This is not that surprising. Blizzard has a history of supporting map editors, the most recent example being Starcraft II. Kaplan also said that Overwatch players will be able to save their highlights/play of the game without any need for external programs.

Yes. This will be live before the end of summer. It's being worked on right now.

In other Overwatch news, the 24th hero and sixth tank role just went live. Orisa is an omnic peacekeeper built to protect the people of Numbani.

Designed by a brilliant 11-year-old engineer and specially outfitted for maximum fortification, Orisa is dedicated to keeping her city—and her creator, Efi—safe from harm. Her abilities include:

Fusion Driver — A rapid-fire automatic gun that touts good range and accuracy even at a distanceProtective Barrier — Throw a device that creates a stationary shield, perfect for intercepting projectiles and protecting teammatesSupercharger — Orisa’s ultimate ability beams a buff to allies within range, increasing the damage they can inflict on the opposing teamTake a look at her introductory video below. Overwatch is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; at some point, it might even launch on the Nintendo Switch.
