Some of the original Metroid Prime developers aren’t too happy with not being adequately credited in Nintendo’s new remastered version.
To the surprise of many, Nintendo shadow-dropped Metroid Prime Remastered last week, but apparently, the remaster’s game credits don’t include the full credits of the original game it is based on. On Twitter, some key developers have now expressed their frustration for not receiving credit where credit is due.
Gameplay engineer on the original Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, David ‘Zoid’ Kirsch’, wrote the following post after seeing the remaster’s “single” credits card.
“While many studios did amazing work on the remaster, I'm let down Metroid Prime's Remaster does not include the full original game credits”, Kirsch wrote over the weekend. “I worked with so many amazing people on the game and everyone's name should be included in the remaster, not just a single card like this.”
Replying to this post, Jack Mathews, who served as tech lead on the three Prime games, said that not including the original credit is a “travesty”. In his reply, Mathews also mentions the work of Mark Haigh-Hutchinson, and engineer Steve McCrea.
“This is a travesty”, Mathews wrote. “Not just for my credit (even though most of my code was probably replaced), but for people whose code and work are largely unchanged, like Mark HH, Steve McCrea, all of the uprezzed art and concepts, the game design. Shameful.”
We guess including the original credits wouldn’t be too much of an effort for Nintendo. Perhaps, a solution would be to release a post-launch patch or hotfix that adds the original game credits to Metroid Prime Remastered’s game credits.
