April 1 - In an effort to quell the lawsuits filed against Ultima Online, Origin plans to open a law office in the town of Trinsic - within the game. The law office will take each suit on a case-by-case basis, instead of as a class-action suit the way it's being handled in the outside world.
"We hope we can resolve some problems players are having with the game from within the game," explains legal counsel for Origin, Fred McCaffey. Each player's complaint will be considered individually, and Origin hopes that each person will take a cash settlement. "We're prepared to hand out millions of gold pieces in the game," says Origin. "We know it will cause problems with UO's economy, but that's what we have to do, I guess."
Ultima Online users must go to Trinsic and visit the law offices of Fred the Green, McCaffey's UO character, to get on the court docket. After that, cases will be handled in order. McCaffey asks that users stop calling his Austin, Texas, office and instead find him in Trinsic.
