OGN Group B Preview-February 2024

With the second place-finisher from last OGN season, a previous Korean powerhouse, an organization out to prove themselves and fresh blood, Group B has everything anyone could ever ask for. Let’s take a peek at the teams Group B has to offer.

  Samsung Galaxy Ozone

After an unexpected World Championship performance that ended with a 9th-10th place finish, Ozone struck back, placing second in the most recent OGN champions. But in this most recentseason, Ozone fronted a new mid-laner to replace dade after his poor performance at the World Championship. Only Najin White Shield and SKT T1 K took games off Ozone last season. It’s obvious the Ozone squad is bursting with talent, especially Mata. “If MadLife is God then Mata is Buddha”, a common mantra from Ozone fans, puts into perspective how damn good Mata really is. In the jungle, DanDy has earned himself the nickname ‘King of Thieves’ for his impressive Baron steals. He excels when playing Lee Sin or Elise, typically looking for the counter gank, rather than the initial gank.

Barring an unexpected disaster, Ozone should definitely make it out of this group. They’ve proven themselves to be a top Korean team - so much so, that their dismal Worlds performance can probably be overlooked heading into this season.

  Incredible Miracle #1

IM #1 hasn’t placed above 8th place in any tournament in over a year. Dating back to July 2012, they haven’t placed higher than 5th-8th in their OGN career. IM #1 wasn’t able to qualify for the last OGN season, losing 0:2 to Samsung Blue in the qualifiers. IM #1 was able to take a game off of the ailing KT Bullets in OGN Masters, but were no match for the stronger KT Arrows.

The Incredible Miracle organization doesn't have a trend of strong performances, and their recent games show no indication of them improving any time soon. They may be able to sneak their way out of the group with an upset over CJ Frost, but it’s not likely.

  CJ Entus Frost

It’s been a dry spell for Frost since failing to qualify for the world championship. Since then, they’ve had 11 roster changes - CloudTemplar, RapidStar, Helios, Ganked By Mom, Maknoon and Lira have left the team since October 2013. Frost hasn’t had much success in OGN Masters. The recent addition of jungler Swift and mid-laner CoCo means that their synergy hasn’t been built up to a level where they can make an impact. This is especially difficult for Frost, as the current meta tends to revolve around the mid and jungle together.

Frost clearly has the potential to make it past the group stages, but it’s unknown how the newcomers will pan out, or if the CJ organization will make another roster change. If Swift and Coco’s synergy can come to fruition, Frost could be a dominating force in Korea yet again.

  MIDAS FIO

As the only amatuer team in OGN, it’s unknown how MIDAS FIO will shake out in this group of OGN veterans. But, they do have a valuable asset at the helm of the team. Jang ‘Woong’ Gun-woong, formerly of Azubu Frost and CJ Entus Frost, is the coach of the team.

While MIDAS did take out Xenics Storm in the qualifier, we will have to wait and see how the newcomers to the OGN hold up this season.
