OD is Hideo Kojima’s New Xbox Horror Game Being Made in Collaboration with Jordan Peele-October 2024
Oct 26, 2024 10:16 AM

It’s always a good bet that Hideo Kojima may pop up to show something at The Game Awards, and he didn’t disappoint this evening. No, he didn’t show Death Stranding 2, instead he finally unveiled his long-ago announced Xbox-exclusive project, which is entitled "OD." The first teaser focused on super-detailed facial animations of the game’s cast, including Sophia Lillis (the new It films), Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), and legendary German actor Udo Kier. Whatever he’s cooking up will make use of Xbox’s cloud tech, although it also seems to be playing off the fan-favorite P.T. with a reoccurring opening door motif. The game’s tagline seems to be “For all players and screamers.” You can check out the teaser trailer, below.

Here's what Kojima had to say about OD…

"I'm really glad to be at the 10th Game Awards. Really happy to show the new title OD. And this title will feature in the main role, Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Keir.

I always like to challenge new things, groundbreaking things, and that's kind of my rule. This one, with the help of Xbox Games Studios and using their cloud gaming technology, we're working together, to make it immersive and [something] never seen before. It is a game, don't get me wrong, but at the same time a movie, but at the same time a new form of media."

Ah, but there was one more surprise. It turns out Kojima will be collaborating with acclaimed horror director Jordan Peele on the game. In fact, unnamed other horror directors – an Avengers-like team says Kojima – will be helping him out on the game. Here’s what Peele had to say about collaborating with Kojima.

"I can say, from the first moment I played Metal Gear Solid 2, I was playing the work of an artist whose craft just hits different. He's been an inspiration to me and the opportunity to collaborate with him is truly incredible. In my films, I'm always trying to maximize the immersion, put the audience into the main character's shoes. Hideo is the master of this, and he does it on a whole other level. What he's cooking up here is completely immersive, utterly terrifying, and I'm absolutely honored to be collaborating with the GOAT. Let's go!"

OD is presumably coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S. A release window has not been announced.
