NVidia, maker of the popular Riva 128 graphics chip, unveiled the RIVA 128ZX processor (which scored a 781 on Ziff-Davis' 3D WinBench98).
Features in the chip include AGP 2X support, high-performance 2D and 3D, an 8MB frame buffer, and a 250MHz RAMDAC (capable of a maximum resolution of 1600x1200x32bbp at 85Hz), and it will be optimized for DirectX and OpenGL. The ZX drivers available for the board will also expedite current RIVA 128 cards.
"As evidenced by our growing customer list and industry awards, NVidia has proven it can deliver leading-edge 3D graphics technology to consumers in the PC market," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVidia. "NVidia is focused on delivering a stunning visual experience, and with the RIVA128ZX, we will take consumer interactive 3D to a new level."
Products using the new chip should be available for Windows 95 and Windows NT sometime in the second quarter.
