Nintendo to Focus on “Current” Switch Through March ’24, CEO Says; Switch Supported Through March 2025 As Well-November 2024
Nov 16, 2024 12:47 AM

Nintendo will be focusing on the "current" Nintendo Switch business through the end of March 2024 but also pointed out the platform will be supported through Nintendo's next Fiscal Year as well.

That's what Nintendo's CEO, Shuntaro Furukawa, said in a recent interview with Japanese outlet Nikkei (via Serkan Toto). The full interview with the CEO is behind a paywall, but some interesting tidbits from the interview were translated by Toto. As pointed out by the consultant, the interview isn't that striking, but some interesting details about the Switch 2 might be discerned from the interview. In the interview, Furukawa pointed out Nintendo will focus on the current Switch business through its current Fiscal Year (FY24), which runs through March 31, 2024. The CEO, however, also said that Nintendo will keep supporting the "current" Switch in Nintendo's next Fiscal Year (FY25) as well. Nintendo's next Fiscal Year will run from April 2024 through the end of March 2025.

  Nothing spectacular, but he says:

  - Until the end of the current fiscal (end of March 2024), Nintendo will focus on the current Switch business

  - They will support the current Switch in the fiscal after that, too

Now, while this doesn't necessarily mean that Nintendo's Switch successor will be released between April 2024 and March 2025, Furukawa's wording might hint that this will be the case. Next year, the current Switch model will be 7 years old, and recent reports suggest that Nintendo has been showing off tech demos on the Switch 2 during Gamescom back in August of this year. Meanwhile, rumors claim that the platform will be able to run The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 4K resolution at 60FPS.

As for the release frame of the rumored Switch 2 - a recent job ad could have hinted at a release of the platform in the second half of 2024.  Last month, we covered a rumor about the Switch 2's possible specs, which the SOC of Nintendo's platform said to sport an NVIDIA Ampere GPU with 1280 cores & 8 cortex A78 CPU cores.
