Nintendo Switch “Could Possibly Eclipse The Wii” Says GameStop-November 2024
Nov 26, 2024 5:36 AM

Initial Nintendo Switch sales have been fantastic, and according to GameStop’s senior director of merchandising, Eric Bright, the platform could very well outshine the Wii.

As covered earlier, the Switch has been selling extremely well and Nintendo has stated that its new hybrid platform has become the fastest-selling console to date, thereby beating initial Wii sales. Actual sales numbers haven’t been released by Nintendo, but recent reports claim that the 1.5 million Switch units were sold to customers one week after its release.

Of course, it’s still way to early to estimate future Switch sales, but if the platform’s momentum continues, it could very well outsell the Wii in the long run according to Bright.

“The Nintendo Switch is off to a start right now that it could possibly eclipse the Wii”, Bright said during a recent interview with Game Rant. “Initial sales on this have been phenomenal. I can’t give straight numbers, but I can say we’re seeing one of the highest attach rates of software and accessories to a device that we’ve seen in a long time.”

Due to the platform’s initial success, Bright added that GameStop is planning to offer new bundles for customers to enjoy:

“We’re seeing tremendous success with the power chargers for the Nintendo Switch, as well as people coming in and picking up extra Joy-Con so people can turn it into a four-player device. We will soon be going online with all-new bundles. Because of the popularity of Zelda, which is one of my top picks, we’re putting together a Zelda bundle of hardware and accessories for customers to pick up online.”

Quite a challenge considering the fact that Nintendo managed to sell more than 100 million Wii units since its release in 2006. While Nintendo recently doubled its Switch production plan for the company’s next fiscal year to 16 million units, reaching 100 million units won’t be an easy task for the Japanese gaming behemoth.

The Nintendo Switch is available worldwide now alongside 1-2-Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You can read our very own Breath of the Wild review right here.
