The Nintendo Switch keeps selling tremendously well, and it appears that Nintendo plans to keep it this way for many years to come.

　　That’s what President of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima, told Japanese financial paper Nikkei. If Kimishima is to believed, the company has every intention of supporting the Switch past the traditional Nintendo home console lifecycle of  5-6 years. Nintendo’s CEO didn’t provide specific details on how long they intend to support the hybrid platform. Supporting the Switch for a longer period might imply that Nintendo will upgrade the platform’s hardware in the years to come, although this is merely speculation at this point.

　　Based on the lifespan of Nintendo’s DS and 3DS, it looks like Nintendo is actually threating the Switch as a handheld rather than a home console.

　　The Nintendo Switch was released back in March of last year alongside the new Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. To date, more than 14 million Switch units have been sold.

　　Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch, previously codenamed “NX”, back in January of 2016.
