Nintendo will perform maintenance on Wii U and 3DS network services next week, the company has announced. The maintenance period will begin Monday, January 11 at 5 PM PST and run through Tuesday, January 12 at 3 AM PST.
During that time, some network services like online play and ranking "may become unavailable," Nintendo warned on its maintenance website (via IGN). You see see the service alert below.
Nintendo did not say why it's performing this maintenance. It's not uncommon for Nintendo, as well as Sony and Microsoft, to perform regular maintenance on their online networks.
2016 is shaping up to be a big year for Nintendo.
The company will launch its first smartphone game, Miitomo, in March. Also this year, Nintendo will start to talk about its next console, codenamed NX. This console is reportedly a console/mobile hybrid that uses "industry-leading" technology.
