Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit Takes the Cardboard Fun to the Land, Sea, and Air
Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit Takes the Cardboard Fun to the Land, Sea, and Air-October 2024
Oct 27, 2024 8:17 PM

Nintendo Labo wasn’t the sales success some were expecting when it was released earlier this year, but The Big N isn’t giving up on their line of quirky cardboard peripherals. Today the publisher announced the Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit, which lets you create controllers for a dune buggy, plane, and unique aquatic vehicle. Interestingly, Nintendo is focusing more on the video game aspect of Labo this time around – the Vehicle Kit trailer, which you can check out below, shows a lot of Switch gameplay, but not all that much building.

Here’s Nintendo’s official description of the Vehicle Kit:

This new Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit is designed to work with the Nintendo Switch, and contains materials to build a variety of customizable cardboard creations, including a Car, a Submarine, a Plane, a Pedal, two Keys and more. By inserting one of the assembled Keys into any of the vehicle controls, players can enjoy a variety of fun games and activities. Changing between vehicles while adventuring is a cinch – simply pull the Key out of one and slot it into another to transform from an airplane pilot to a submarine captain!

Each vehicle features its own controls and special moves, and with the second Key, players can even invite a co-pilot along on their in-game journey. Interacting with the assembled Toy-Con creations instantly translates into in-game actions to create a truly immersive experience – from pulling the cord on the Car to pop a wheelie, pushing the button on the Submarine to launch a grappling hook and so much more.

The possibilities of Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit can be expanded even further with Toy-Con Garage. This intuitive and interactive programming tool is included with every Nintendo Labo kit and features a simple, visual interface and handy tutorials designed for players of all ages.

Looks like a lot of fun, like all Nintendo Labo stuff. Hopefully Nintendo sticks with the concept – at least until my son is old enough to start bending cardboard!

Nintendo Labo: Vehicle Kit launches on September 14. The kit will cost $70.
