If the Switch has been selling so well, recently surpassing the 10 million mark merely nine months after its launch in March 2017, it is largely because of the masterpieces developed by Nintendo EPD. From The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to Super Mario Odysey, from Arms to Splatoon 2 and even Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the signature of Nintendo EPD is all over the success of the Switch.

　　However, speaking to Engadget in a recent interview, Shinya Takahashi (General Manager at Nintendo EPD - Entertainment, Planning and Development) said:

　　We want more people to have these kinds of experiences, so that's what we have been working towards. But that's also why I feel that it is too early to talk about our success. Rather, I feel like we are still on the road to that success. We would like to see so many more people having these experiences, and I do believe that we can get there.

　　Truth to be told, Takahashi's caution is definitely understandable. Making a successful console would be best compared to a marathon than a sprint and even the sales of the exceedingly popular Nintendo Wii dried up in the last couple years of that generation.

　　Moreover, Nintendo will have a tougher time keeping this kind of momentum in 2018 with the exclusives. That's because many internal development teams have just released a game and it will be a while yet before they can launch another one; it is currently unclear whether Metroid Prime 4 will be available in 2018, for example.

　　On the other hand, the early success enjoyed by the Switch convinced many developers and publishers to bring their games to the hybrid console, so third-party support should be solid.
