Nintendo is making moves with another acquisition. The company has acquired Dynamo Pictures, a visual content company, to create content for Nintendo "utilizing Nintendo IP" in the future. Nintendo is paying 34.5 million yen (~$250,000) for the company.

Dynamo Pictures will be called Nintendo Pictures Co. when the deal closes, which is expected to happen in October 2022. Dynamo is a Japanese animation studio known for its work on a range of visual content.

While the name Nintendo Pictures Co. suggests this is a movie-related deal, VGC reminds us that Dynamo's credits also include visual content for games, as well as motion-capture. Some of the company's credits have included motion-capture work for Death Stranding and Monster Hunter World, among others.

Nintendo worked with Dynamo on the CG for Metroid: Other M and the Pikmin short movies.

If Nintendo is indeed digging deeper into non-video game entertainment with the buyout of Dynamo, it wouldn't be the first push from the company. The Super Mario movie featuring Chris Pratt as Mario and Jack Black as Bowser premieres in early 2023 through a partnership with Minions studio Illumination.

Reports have suggested that Nintendo may produce a Donkey Kong spin-off film featuring the voice of Seth Rogen in the future.

Nintendo has a trove of popular franchises that could in theory be adapted for TV or film. Some of its biggest and best known include Zelda, Star Fox, and Animal Crossing, among others.

This is happening as another big Japanese game company, Sony, creates even more film and TV projects through its PlayStation Studios division.

Nintendo's acquisition of Dynamo is the company's second big buyout this year. In April, the company spent $40 million to acquire... a big piece of land.
