Nintendo Co. Ltd. said on Friday that this November it will increase production of its Game Boy portable system by 100,000 units to one million units a month. Nintendo is currently producing one million N64s a month, as well.
Nintendo Managing Director Hiroshi Imanishi told Reuters that an increase in software and hardware sales on Nintendo's eight-year-old portable system led to the increase in production of the units, made in both Japan and China.
At the moment, Nintendo's two hottest Game Boy properties are Pocket Monster (which will have a Nintendo 64DD version next year), and Bandai's Tamagotchi cartridge, which continues to sell very strongly in Japan and will be coming to the US in October.
