Nintendo AU auctions off Wiis for charity
Nintendo AU auctions off Wiis for charity-November 2024
Nov 1, 2024 4:30 PM

The Nintendo Wii has been the dominant next-gen console in Australia for several years, and now that numerous hits have appeared on the platform, Nintendo Australia is giving a little bit back to the community.

Teaming up with four of indigenous Australia's most recognisable artists--Gloria Petyarre, Barbara Weir, Emily Pwerle, and Gayla Pwerle--Nintendo Australia is auctioning off eight Wii consoles that have been decorated in traditional Aboriginal artwork. All money raised from the eBay auctions will be given to the Shalom Gamarada Scholarship Programme, which is an organisation dedicated to encouraging young indigenous Australians to complete school and to continue their studies at university.

Emily Pwerle's design is inspired by designs that Aboriginal women traditionally paint on each other before ceremonies.

Successful bidders will receive two Wiis: one functional Wii and one faux console that has the artwork on it.

To take a look at the consoles, you can check out the artwork over at the official eBay auction page.
