Playing fast and loose with the minutiae of reality is a hallmark of gaming. So in a game where a flying jester whisks away children to the dream world to engage fantastical beings, it's only natural that the real-world jet stream has an impact on gameplay.
Sega has announced that NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams will incorporate the Wii's Weather Channel. While it won't affect the game's single-player storyline, the Weather Channel will play into my dream mode, a sandbox-style freeplay mode that offers a more direct take on the unique dream-world inhabitants of Nightopia. Weather patterns in my dream will reflect real-world conditions for the region in which each console is registered, so "if the current weather forecast is clear and sunny in the players' resident territory, the My Dream environment will be clear and sunny as well," Sega notes.
NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams soars exclusively onto the Wii in North America on December 18. A European release will follow in January 2008. It is rated E for Everyone and will retail for $49.99.
