May 26 marks the beginning of Konami's latest marketing push as the company plans to release Nightmare Creatures II for the PlayStation and Dreamcast near the end of next month. Rocker Rob Zombie scored the soundtrack for the gothic horror action-adventure, and gamers who preorder the title will receive a free soundtrack CD.
Rick Naylor, Konami's brand manager for action games, said that the ad campaign will take advantage of the game's dark overtones, making the commercials suitably demonic. The ads will air during broadcasts on MTV, Comedy Central, WWF and WCW Wrestling, The Simpsons, and King of the Hill.
Konami is also partnering with Universal Studios Hollywood to give away a trip for two to the park's Hallowe'en Horror Nights in October. Universal Studios will dedicate a section of the park to Nightmare Creatures II, as live characters and creatures from the game will wander mindlessly through the grounds.
Naylor further added that this type of blitzkrieg advertising campaign is indicative of things to come from Konami for the rest of 2000. Should we be scared?
