NightDive Studios would be a great fit for remasters of Raven Software's Hexen and Heretic, according to the studios's lead engine developer.
Yesterday, during the latest episode of the Xbox podcast, Microsoft's Gaming CEO Phil Spencer talked about the now-completed merger with Activision-Blizzard-King. Aside from talking about Call of Duty's availability on both Xbox and PlayStation, the Xbox boss also talked about the timeframe of Activision-Blizzard games being added to Game Pass. Another interesting thing that Spencer briefly mentioned was revisiting older IPs that Microsoft now owns. With Microsoft now also owning Activision studio Raven Software, older popular titles that spring to mind are Heretic and Hexen. As some of you might recall, Spencer is a big fan of the Hexen franchise, and he even wore a Hexen shirt during this year's Xbox Showcase.
"If teams want to go back and revisit some of the things that we have and do a full focus on it, I'm going to be all in on that", Spencer said during the podcast. We've included the podcast below:
One developer who heard Spencer saying that Microsoft is keen on revisiting older IPs is NightDive Studios Lead Engine developer Samual Villarreal. Taking to Twitter, the developer said that he and his team at NightDive would be a good match for doing remasters of both Heretic and Hexen. "Just letting you know, having a long-running history and extensive knowledge with Heretic and Hexen, just want to point out that me and my team are very well suited for the job", he tweeted to Spencer.
Now of course this doesn't mean that we'll be getting remasters of Raven Software's shooters from the 90s, but it's good to learn that there are developers out there who would like to work on remastering these classics.
Vancouver-based revival studio NightDive Studios is well known for its most recent System Shock Remake as well as remasters of the Turok series, Quake, Shadow Man, and many more classic titles.
