2K Games today announced the release of a new roster update for its NHL 2K6 hockey sim on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. It reflects many of the big trades and transactions that have taken place in the NHL since the league's yearlong lockout ended (like Peter Forsberg being signed by the Philadelphia Flyers and Flyer star Jeremy Roenick's subsequent trade to the LA Kings), but it still lacks one of the biggest reasons fans have been looking forward to the season: the much-heralded rookie phenom Sidney Crosby.
Due to licensing restrictions of the NHL Players Association, players can only appear in NHL-licensed video games after having played in a regular season NHL game. Gamers hoping to take control of Crosby to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins back to the promised land will have to be a bit more patient, as 2K Games is planning another roster update with Crosby and the rest of the rookie class after the start of the NHL regular season on October 5.
Players can download the new rosters by getting their systems online and then selecting the roster update option. For more on NHL 2K6, check out GameSpot's full review.
