A 30-second teaser for the new Dexter limited series has arrived, and it's strange and unsettling. The brief teaser shows Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan with a concerned look on his face as he peers out from a window in his cabin to a fire burning outside. He then turns, faces the camera, and smiles. Your guess is as good as mine as to what's going on here.
Many thought that Dexter became a lumberjack in isolation at the end of Dexter's original run, and it seems the limited series will pick up from there. We learned previously that the new show will begin several years after the events of the finale. Currently Hall is the only member of the original cast confirmed to be making a return. Actor Clancy Brown will be playing the show's antagonist. Paralympian actor Katy Sullivan is among the most recent additions to the cast.
The Dexter revival filmed some episodes in the Boston area, but whether or not Dexter the character will go to Boston remains to be seen. The original series was set mainly in Miami.
The first teaser for the Dexter revival showed what appears to be the same fire and lumberjack axe from this new video. In that earlier trailer Dexter says, "There really is nothing like getting back to nature. My nature."
Clyde Phillips, who served as showrunner for the original first four seasons of Dexter, is returning for the revival. For the new series, Phillips said the team basically gets to "start from scratch," but this won't involve retconning the controversial ending to the show.
"We're not going to betray the audience and say, 'Whoops, that was all a dream.' What happened in the first eight years happened in the first eight years," Phillips said.
While you wait for the 10-episode limited series to debut this fall, you can watch all of the previous seasons right now on Showtime.
