New information on Square Enix's upcoming new console role-playing game, Project Setsuna, have emerged online. Speaking to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu in an interview (translated via Siliconera) Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda revealed that the theme of Project Setsuna comes from the Japanese word "setsunasa," which can mean sadness or sorrow.

　　Matsuda confirmed that developer Tokyo RPG Factory consists of a team of external developers, which includes freelance staff. The expected development time for the game is "short," with a release date set for 2016. Publisher Square Enix will make a decision on whether to grow the IP after it "carefully [looks] over the results" post-launch.

　　"It’s important to create new IPs, but creating big IPs is difficult... Having been looking at the game industry up until now, it’s quite common to see [a video game series] take the form of a trilogy. In that sense, we need to have at least three [titles] before knowing whether it will continue growing or not," Matsuda said.

　　Square Enix announced Project Setsuna at its E3 conference this year. The name is a working title, and the game been described as an all-new IP which will not be a spin-off. Check out some of the concept art in the gallery below.
