New Spider-Man 2 Patch 1.001.003 Corrects Cuban Flag Error; Insomniac Apologizes-October 2024

Insomniac Games has deployed Spider-Man 2 patch 1.001.003 for PlayStation 5, which fixes the apparent Cuban Flag error within the game.

Following the game's release last week, some players correctly discovered that the game features the Cuban flag in Miles Morales' home. As most of you will know, Miles and his mother are Puerto Rican, and the portrayal of the wrong flag caused some uproar. Insomniac acknowledged the apparent error and has now released a patch that corrects this issue. On Twitter, the developer also apologized for this inaccurate representation within the game. "Today's patch corrects an error where the Cuban flag was incorrectly displayed instead of the Puerto Rican flag", the team writes. "We understand that accurate representation matters, and greatly regret this error. We sincerely apologize and will do better in the future."

Aside from correcting the flag in Miles' home, this new patch also improves stability and addresses an issue where The Amazing 2 Suit's Spider logo appeared too bright. In addition, the update fixes an issue where models would not load properly after long play sessions. You can check out the official patch notes here.

Spider-Man 2 is available globally now for PlayStation 5. As reported earlier, the game sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide on launch day, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios title ever.

Here's what our very own Alessio Palumbo wrote about Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 in our launch review: "Web-swinging around NYC is much faster, especially when fully upgraded. But the true upgrade is the addition of web swings, which allow the player to feel as if they were actually flying at exhilarating speed through the open world. Even mobility is much better, arguably making it a superior traversal method compared to web-swinging. Moreover, Insomniac placed air currents and updrafts all across the city, which can be used to fly much faster and to go higher, respectively. There's also an element of skill involved, as you need to stay in the green rings to maintain the speed boost. When you've got the hang of it, traversal feels incredible in Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Sure, there's the blink-and-you-miss-it fast travel feature, but why would you use it when traversing the actual world is already so fast and fun?"
