Sega of America has released several new shots of Phantasy Star Online, the fully networked Dreamcast RPG from Sonic Team. As announced previously, the game will support up to four players in online gameplay. Each player will be assigned their own IDs that become the players' online identity in the PSO world. Players can use to the IDs to communicate with others worldwide and form a group of four to partake in the game's quests. Additionally, to facilitate the communication between players from different regions of the world the game will use a standardized set of symbols representing common phrases and in-game commands.
The Phantasy Star Online story begins when a small scout team descends from space to investigate an explosion on the planet below. Unfortunately, that bit of information is the story element revealed at this time. GameSpot will continue to follow developments in Phantasy Star Online and will bring you the latest details.
