Sega of Japan has released new details and screenshots of its NAOMI-based arcade game - Toy Fighter. For gamers looking for direct battle without the running and jumping of other titles, the game uses a battle circle system - a hovering rubber band inspired by the ropes in wrestling rings - which players can use to ricochet back into action.
Toy Fighter also sports an intuitive dodge button that lets players evade hits from opponents automatically, depending on the body part about to be struck. The downside to using this button, though, is that players will be defenseless against grab-and-throw moves. The game is similar to fighting games like Tekken in that fast players can perform counterattacks - if their timing is correct.
And as in Ocean's fighting game Fighters Destiny for the N64, the winner is decided by the number of earned points rather than by the level of the health gauge. The player who receives five points first wins the game. The number of points players earn will depend on how they knock their opponents down.
Toy Fighter will land in Japanese arcades this fall and a Dreamcast version will likely follow next year.
