New Kevin Hart Drama Fatherhood Moves To Netflix, Opens Father's Day Weekend-November 2024
Nov 15, 2024 7:54 PM

Actor and comedian Kevin Hart's new drama Fatherhood has moved from Sony Pictures to Netflix and it will release on, you guessed it, Father's Day weekend.

Variety reports that the film was originally set for a theatrical debut on April 16, but Sony Pictures decided to cut a deal with Netflix to bring it to streaming instead. According to the report, the licensing deal covers Netflix markets except for China.

The report said about 50% of US theaters remain closed due to the pandemic, so it appears Sony Pictures anticipated the film having a tough time theatrically so it made a deal with Netflix. The film is now slated to open on June 18 on Netflix.

Fatherhood was directed by Paul Weitz, who directed American Pie and Little Fockers. Weitz also wrote About A Boy, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay. The script was written by Dana Stevens (Safe Haven, City of Angels).

Variety also reported that Barack and Michelle Obama's production company, Higher Ground, are now attached to Fatherhood as part of their own deal with Netflix. For what it's worth, Hart also has an Adam Sandler-like deal with Netflix to make four movies for the streamer.
