New Golf Comedy Starring Renee Zellweger In The Works-October 2024
Oct 15, 2024 8:20 PM

Two-time Oscar winner Renee Zellweger has been cast in a new golf-themed comedy film called The Back Nine that comes from Sex and the City's Michael Patrick King. He wrote the script with Jhoni Marchinko and Krista Smith and he's also set to direct.

According to Deadline, Zellweger is attached to play the character Casey Jones, a woman who gave up her career in golf to allow for her husband to succeed. With her marriage falling apart and her son away at college, Zellweger decides to get back into golf and make the most of the "back nine" of her life, according to the film's description from Deadline.

King said Zellweger is a "stunning actress with incredible range." He said, "She can make you laugh and cry and has a great golf swing. What more could anyone want?"

The Back Nine is just the latest golf movie with big-name talent. Some of the most famous golf movies of all time have included Tin Cup starring Kevin Costner; The Legend of Bagger Vance with Will Smith, Matt Damon, and Charlize Theron; the ensemble comedy Caddyshack; and the Adam Sandler comedy Happy Gilmore, just to name a few.

As for Zellweger, she's coming off her Oscar win for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for Judy, the movie about Judy Garland. She previously won for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Cold Mountain. She also earned Oscar nominations for Chicago and Bridget Jones's Diary.

There is no word yet on a supporting cast for The Back Nine or a release date.
