New Fortnite 8.10 Patch Forces Xbox One & PS4 Crossplay; Improves Switch Performance
New Fortnite 8.10 Patch Forces Xbox One & PS4 Crossplay; Improves Switch Performance-September 2024
Sep 21, 2024 11:37 PM

Epic has released Fortnite patch 8.10 which forces PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players to play together and aims to improve the game’s performance on the Switch.

While many console owners could have only dreamed of playing together with players from other platforms in the past, Epic is taking Fortnite crossplay to a new level by combining PlayStation 4 and Xbox One pools. In addition, Switch players are now combined with players from mobile devices. Prior to the 8.10 update, Switch players were combined with Xbox One and PS4 cross-play parties.

According to the patch’s release notes, players are required to opt-in to crossplay, and players opting out are being restricted to the game’s Creative Mode and Playgrounds.

“Motivating factor is unlocking optimization potential allowing us to run more playlists during more hours of the day while supporting more data center locations”, Epic writes.

Another interesting change that comes with this update is the improved performance of Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch by “reducing the likelihood of particles triggering when the day changes phases.”
