With the free 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion including Path Tracing, Cyberpunk 2077 has again set a new benchmark for PC gaming. This new Cyberpunk 2077 Path Tracing mod makes the game even more demanding.
We already said it in our PC analysis of Phantom Liberty last week, but CDPR has delivered the most technically advanced and beautiful PC game with the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion. As said, the free 2.0 update added support for NVIDIA's DLSS 3.5 tech and Path Tracing. "Path tracing lends a photorealistic look at Night City simply by virtue of making sure all of its lights properly affect every surrounding surface", we wrote.
If the standard Ray Tracing subset isn't enough for your needs, this new mod from modder 'Schreedr' aims to make the game even more realistic by increasing the number of rays and more light bounces. According to the modder, by default, Cyberpunk 2077 uses two rays and two bunches, and through the use of this mod, players can increase the number of rays and bounces to six. Several files are included in order to pick between different numbers. As mentioned by the modder, the tech requires a lot of GPU power, and he recommends using at least an NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU.
Those interested in giving this mod a go can download it from Nexusmods here. As said, be cautious when using this mod as it will greatly impact performance when using too many rays and bounces.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty and the free 2.0 update are available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Here's what we wrote about Phantom Liberty in our review:
"Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty builds upon what was an already great game to deliver more fantastic storytelling (with a spy thriller theme, this time around), exciting combat, and very high-quality side content", we wrote. "The perk tree overhaul is a major improvement to progression, and additions like vehicle combat and the overhauled police system are very welcome, albeit not game-changing. If you've been holding out on Cyberpunk 2077 until now, you'll find a huge game with over 120 hours of quality content and an incredibly immersive game world to literally lose yourself in. On top of that, it's by far the most beautiful and technically advanced game available if you have the hardware for it (PC and RTX 40 GPU)."
