Netflix's Epic Anime Disaster Show Japan Sinks: 2020 Gets First Trailer-September 2024
Sep 19, 2024 8:57 PM

Japan Sinks is a classic novel about a terrible disaster that hits Japan after a series of earthquakes. It was written in 1973 by Sakyo Komatsu, and has been adapted several times over the decades, including a TV show in the 1970s and a movie in 2006. A new anime series is due for release by Netflix next month, and the first trailer is here.

Japan Sinks: 2020 is directed by Masaaki Yuasa, who is best known for the 2018 anime hit Devilman Crybaby. The show looks extremely gripping, with a mix of powerful drama as a family attempt to survive the disaster and some amazing-looking scenes of epic destruction. Check it out below.

Japan Sinks: 2020 is a 10-part series, with animation by Science Saru, the studio co-founded by Yuasa. The show hits Netflix in its entirety on July 9. Anyone who has seen the outrageous Devilman Crybaby or Yuasa's insane 2004 film Mind Game will know that he is a master at delivering jaw-dropping moments, and it'll be exciting to see what he brings to the disaster genre.
