Netflix Is Lowering Prices Around The World, But Not In The US-November 2024
Nov 15, 2024 12:58 AM

Netflix is cutting subscription prices around the world, but US members won't see any price reductions. The streaming platform confirmed that it's dropping prices in more than 100 international markets, with more than 10 million accounts seeing a price cut.

Some of the markets getting price drops include South and Central America, the Middle East, North Africa, Central and Eastern Europe, the Asia Pacific region, and Sub-Saharan Africa (you can see the full list here). Subscribers in those places are seeing the cost of a basic membership fall in the range of 20%-60%. New and existing members will see the price drops reflected on their accounts immediately, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 10 million+ accounts affected by the price drops make up around 4% of Netflix's total global subscriber base of around 230 million.

Research firm Ampere Analysis said in a note that the move will come with a negative average revenue per user impact for Netflix. However, the research group said the price reductions could lead to an uptick in new subscribers. And for what it's worth, Netflix is soaring right now, achieving a profit of $4.49 billion in 2022.

In the US, Netflix raised prices in 2022 and launched a new ad-based tier. Netflix is also rolling out password-sharing changes, including a new fee.
