When thinking about classic '80s cartoons, one of the biggest standouts is Masters of the Universe, which most of us simply called "He-Man" because the real title of that cartoon was a mouthful for a toddler. Now, He-Man is returning to television as Mattel TV and Netflix have teamed up for an anime series.
Announced at Power-Con, director Kevin Smith surprised audiences and announced this new project. He will serve as showrunner and executive producer of Netflix's anime series Masters of the Universe: Revelation. The show will entail unresolved stories from the classic '80s era, and it will follow many of your favorite characters right where they left off when the show ended.

Now Playing: Netflix And Mattel TV Are Making A He-Man Anime Series
"I'm Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe," declared Smith in a press release. "In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor! Brought to life with the most metal character designs Powerhouse Animation can contain in the frame, this is the Masters of the Universe story you always wanted to see as a kid!"
Eric Carrasco (Supergirl), Tim Sheridan (Reign of the Supermen), Diya Mishra (Magic the Gathering), and Marc Bernardin (Alphas) will serve as writers on the new series. Powerhouse Animation, the studio behind Netflix's Castlevania series will be doing the animation.
The new series continues to grow Netflix's anime content on the service. "He-Man has inspired children--and the child inside of us all--for decades, with his feats of heroism and courage in the face of evil," exclaimed John Derderian, head of anime content for Netflix. "We can think of no better creator for this show than Kevin Smith."
No release date was revealed at the time of the announcement.
