The Cuphead Show is an animated offering adapting 2017's wildly popular video game Cuphead, which was a mash-up of sorts of Contra run-and-gun action featuring a Betty Boop art style. The video game was developed and published by the Canadian video-game developer StudioMDHR, and featured hand-drawn animations and painstakingly watercolor-painted backgrounds. The show's creative crew promises to continue the tradition of meticulous animation and presentational flair, boasting--as the trailer indicates--"a ragtag tribe of enthusiastic artists and animators."

The Cuphead Show, which is being billed as an all-ages comedy, was first announced by Netflix in 2019 and is being co-executive produced by StudioMDHR's Chad and Jared Moldenhauer along with CJ Kettler from King Features Syndicate. Dave Wasson and Cosmo Segurson will co-executive produce, and Clay Morrow and Adam Paloian will serve as supervising directors.

The new trailer doesn't offer much insight into what the show will actually be about, but in it, Wasson says, "Cuphead is a lovable scamp and he also happens to have a cup for a head." It's all right there in the show's name.

The Cuphead Show Joins the Netflix's live-action series The Witcher as another video-game adaptation. Showtime also has in production an adaptation of Halo. Also on the horizon is a live-action pirate drama based on Ubisoft's Skull & Bones, plus a film and television universe built around the yesteryear popular computer game Myst by Village Roadshow.
