Netflix Buys Seth Rogen, Kind Of-October 2024
Oct 16, 2024 11:20 AM

Netflix has acquired actor Seth Rogen, at least according to a promotional image now appearing on the streaming platform. It makes the claim next to a befuddled-looking Rogen, with a tease that more is "coming soon."

The Hollywood Reporter points out this is auspicious timing, as Netflix is preparing to air the sixth annual Hilarity for Charity event to benefit Alzheimer's patients. Rogen is a long-time activist for Alzheimer's research, having seen his mother-in-law suffer from the illness. This will be the first broadcast of the event, boasting talent such as Sarah Silverman, Kumail Nanjiani, Jeff Goldblum, John Mulaney, and The Muppets. The event took place on March 24, and Netflix will air it on April 6.

Now Playing: New On Netflix: What You Should Watch In April 2018!

Alternatively, some have suggested this is laying the groundwork for an early April Fool's joke, which falls on Sunday. Given Netflix's habit of acquiring properties as it further expands its portfolio of original programming, the gag makes sense as self-effacing comedy.

Whatever the reason, Rogen and Netflix are committed to the bit. THR's inquiry about the announcement received a response from a Seth Rogen at Netflix email address, in which he refers to himself as "a wholly owned and licensed subsidiary of Netflix Inc." A tweet from Netflix also provides Rogen's new company email. The response suggests that unlawful reproduction of Seth Rogen will force Netflix to terminate the real Seth, so definitely don't do that.

Rogen's charity comedy special will be streaming starting next week. Check out what else is coming in April to Netflix.
