HBO's The Last Of Us show has proven a huge success, drawing in an audience of millions of viewers. The Last Of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann marked the premiere of the first season's finale with a Twitter post, thanking the fans for watching and promising a return next season.
Druckmann's post also thanks the fans for their weekly social media engagement, which helped fuel interest in the TV adaptation. The show was renewed for Season 2 back in January, after its series premiere became the second-biggest debut ever with 22 million viewers, a number that has no doubt increased dramatically since then. Star Pedro Pascal told Collider that there's a chance that the second season will enter production this year, though it's far from certain. We spoke to Marlene actress Merle Dandridge about the crushing finale, too.

Now Playing: The Last of Us Finale Breakdown: The Great Joel Debate, Merle Dandridge Interview
Druckmann and fellow writer Craig Mazin said in a recent interview with GQ that Season 2 will cover some of the events of The Last Of Us Part 2, but that it will not cover the entirety of it. Druckmann confirmed that the events of the sequel will be covered in multiple seasons of the show, though he would not say how many. However, Mazin also stated that they will aim for the show to "not overstay its welcome."
What a ride! Thank you to everyone that tuned in and helped make this show such a wonderful journey. We’ll miss your weekly thoughts, videos, reactions, artwork, cover songs, etc!
Can’t wait to do it again with y’all! See you next season! Until then, endure & survive! ♥️ pic.twitter.com/qFMG5Ke7I7

In that same interview, Druckmann said that he does not care about those who dislike The Last Of Us Part 2 as a game, remarking that how they react is "completely outside of our control." Instead, he says he's focused on making the best TV adaptation of Part 2 possible.
