Sep 22, 2024 11:30 AM

A remake of the '90s classic White Men Can't Jump is on the way. It has been reported that Kenya Barris, creator of the acclaimed sitcom Black-ish, is working on a new version of the basketball comedy.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Barris is developing the project alongside Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin and Carolina Panthers' Ryan Kalil, who also run the production company Mortal Media. Barris is writing the script through a deal he set up with Fox last year.

The original White Men Can't Jump was released in 1992, and starred Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. The film was directed by Ron Shelton, and focused on the on-and-off court relationship between two basketball rivals.

Barris has found considerable success with Black-ish, which is now on its third season. The ABC show was nominated for three awards at this month's Golden Globe awards, with Tracee Ellis Ross winning best actress.
