Coming into the event, Fnatic departed ways with Andreas "Moddi" Fridh as the longest member of their CS:GO squad, bringing in Epsilon's Markus “pronax” Wallste as in-game leader. Fnatic eased past Na'Vi 16-9 on mirage and Mystik 16-6 on inferno to grab the top slot in Group A. Fnatic's Robin 'flusha' Rönnquist led the team with a 22 k/d and Andreas "schneider" Lindberg kept the round streak going early on against Na'Vi.

　　Na'Vi was the best Counter-Strike 1.6 team in the world in 2010 and 2011 but have never been able to find their footing in CS:GO. The situation was only made worse with the departure of star players Ioann "Edward" Sukhariev and Yegor "markeloff" Markelov earlier in the year. Na'Vi Owner Alexander "ZeroGravity" Kokhanovsky says support will continue for the CS:GO team until the end of 2013, but the elimination from DreamHack Winter may be the last for the current roster.

　　Group B has begun with tournament favorites NiP along with iBuyPower, Universal Soldiers and Recursive.
