Mulan Tracking Big Opening Box Office Weekend In The US
Mulan Tracking Big Opening Box Office Weekend In The US-October 2024
Oct 16, 2024 4:48 AM

Disney's latest live-action remake, Mulan, is tracking to have a great opening weekend in the United States. The first Disney remake to receive a PG-13 rating is tracking to take in at least $85 million on its opening weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

If it happens, this box office take would be the largest opening in 2020 so far, beating out Bad Boys For Life, which took in $62.5 million its first weekend. For a larger perspective, an $85 million opening for Mulan would place it around the #90 spot for the biggest weekend openings of all time, according to Box Office Mojo.

However, there are some storms on the horizon for Mulan. While the movie will opening in the United States should go according to plan, all 70,000 movie theaters in China are closed because of COVID-19 (coronavirus) concerns. At the time of this writing, a new release date in the country has not been scheduled for Mulan. Considering the film takes place in China, Mulan was expected to do well there. The global box office is expected to lose $5 billion dollars because of the virus.

Mulan stars Liu Yifei as a teenager who disguises herself as a man to fight in the Chinese Imperial army against invaders. The film is directed by Niki Caro and will also star Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Li Gong, Jason Scott Lee, and more.

Mulan comes to theaters in the US on March 27.
