One of Marvel's most recent hit characters is reportedly getting her own show on Disney's upcoming streaming service. Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan, the company's first Muslim superhero, is in the works. THR reports that British writer Bisha K. Ali attached as writer and showrunner.
The announcement was made at Disney's D23 presentation, when Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said that viewers will be introduced to Kamala through the TV show, but then see her in the MCU movies. This is the first confirmation of a Disney+ Marvel character making the jump to the bigger screen, instead of vice versa.

Now Playing: Who Is Kamala Khan? Ms. Marvel's Comics Origins
Just announced at #D23Expo: MS. MARVEL, an original series from Marvel Studios, only on Disney+. pic.twitter.com/4tuAOfVHKW
— Marvel Entertainment (@Marvel) August 23, 2019
Though the name "Ms. Marvel" has belonged to various heroes since the 1970s, Kamala Khan was introduced in 2013. The Pakistani American character opened up opportunities to explore themes of religious and cultural identity. Her powers allow her to change shape, and she's known for being a fan of superheroes within the Marvel universe, allowing for some meta-commentary.
Kamala was added to the Marvel universe near other notable characters like Miles Morales as the Ultimate Spider-Man, and Spider-Gwen, an alternate version of Gwen Stacy in which she (rather than Peter Parker) was bitten by a radioactive spider. All three characters have become the faces of a new, younger Marvel universe.
