Following Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami in March, Sony opted to put a hold on the impending release of its chaos-driven PlayStation 3 racer MotorStorm: Apocalypse worldwide. While the game eventually arrived to critical acclaim in the West, it has remained off store shelves in Japan. It appears now as if that status will continue in perpetuity.
Sony's reasoning for today's decision can probably be assumed. Andria Sang reports today that Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced that it no longer has any plans to release MotorStorm: Apocalypse in its home nation. Sony reportedly did not offer a reason for its decision to cancel the game's release in Japan.
As the PS3 is not region locked for games, Japanese gamers are still able to import MotorStorm: Apocalypse for play on their systems. Whereas previous installments in the series presented eye-catching natural environments, MotorStorm: Apocalypse is set in an earthquake-ravaged metropolis inspired by the US Pacific coast, specifically the San Francisco Bay Area.
