Moto Racer 4 Preview – Fast, Flashy and Possibly Doomed-October 2024
Oct 22, 2024 2:08 PM

Moto Racer is a series that's never really made it to the big leagues. It's always resulted in average to great games. The best being 1998's Moto Racer 2 or 2002's Moto Racer Advance. Developers Artefacts Studios and Publishers Microids have teamed up with the designer of the original game, Paul Cuisset, to bring the first core series release in eighteen years. The problem is, it's been delayed from an original October release to November. November the 3rd could be the worst day in the world to release a game. That being the same day as Activision releases Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (as well as Modern Warfare Remastered, included in the package).

November the 4th will be the release date of Moto Racer 4 on the PS4, Xbox One and the PC. Due to the age of the franchise it may not be well known, some won't have even heard of it at all. The best way to describe it would be motorbike cart racing. It's arcade from tip to toe. There's no simulation to be found here, you'll find that in Moto GP or RIDE 2. I was able to play Moto Racer 4 at Gamescom and found it fun and surprisingly easy to pick up and play. There's no doubt that it's followed on and improved on the core concept of it being an arcade racer.

We've covered Moto Racer 4 in the past. Highlighting the number of game modes and the options available to you. What wasn't covered is the fact that the game will feature 18 different tracks. It will also feature a career mode which spans ten chapters. Regardless of the mode, you'll want to do as many jumps as you can, posing on your bike while in mid-air, and complete a quick-time event when you land to gain a speed boost. So as well as worrying about the race and other riders, you have that extra layer to contend with.

What we haven't mentioned so far is that Moto Racer 4 will come with PSVR support. A huge coup and possibly the first motorbike racing game to come with VR support, which should give it a big boost. That and the utilization of PSVR, combined with the fact that the deluxe edition is PS4 exclusive, should give it a boost amongst the Playstation users.

The deluxe edition will contain a steelbook version of the game with the season pass included. Other additional content will include 3 riders and 6 bikes. Also included are 6 horns and 3 emblems, used in the customization features found within the game. The riders and bikes may offer an advantage in the online mode, though this isn't a guarantee, but the added customization will be something to set you apart from the other nine riders you go up against in the ten-man online modes that the game will offer.

On release the game will support 4K, it's targeted to have a 60fps frame rate on both PC's and consoles and honestly, it looks great. Not through some ultra-high realistic texture mapping, but because it's colorful and well designed. Something that games could learn from. Realism can be great, but a vibrant aesthetics is equally good. Often more-so. Will it be a world-beater? I doubt it, but I already know it's fun.
