Mortal Kombat 1 – How to Unlock the Second Fatality for All Fighters-October 2024
Oct 31, 2024 9:34 AM

Mortal Kombat 1 marks the latest entry in the blood-soaked fighting series, and it looks to deliver a satisfying fresh dose of ultraviolence for longtime fans. In addition to a new tag-team mechanic that lets you pair a main character with a backup “Kameo” fighter, you can look forward to an epic all-new story, regular seasonal updates that will add new Invasion mode missions, and more.

Of course, as with every entry in the series, Mortal Kombat 1 brings back Fatalities, and trust me, they’re more gruesome than ever. That said, upon starting up the game you’ll find each fighter only has a single Fatality in their moves list. A bit paltry! Thankfully, there are more Fatalities available, with each core fighter having access to a second one. So, how do you add these to your moves list? Scroll on to find out…

Unlocking a fighter’s second Fatality is a matter of boosting their “Mastery” level to a certain point. As you play with a character, whether in the single-player Invasions mode or against others online, you’ll earn XP and raise your Mastery level. This has to be done for each character individually. Regardless of the fighter, you’ll always unlock your second Fatality when you reach Mastery level 14. You’ll also unlock additional Brutalities at level 3 and level 5.

As for how you should go about quickly raising your Mastery level, Invasion mode is probably your best bet as it throws a lot of short matches at the player in quick succession. Try to pull off Brutalities or Fatalities during matches in order to boost the XP you earn. Beyond that, there’s not much of a trick to it.

Ah, but I do have a trick for you – while reaching character Mastery level 14 will officially add a second Fatality to that fighter’s move list, you can actually pull off all the game’s Fatalities without unlocking them if you know their button inputs. Thankfully, we have a handy-dandy list of all the Fatalities in the game and how to do them!

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch on September 19, although those who have purchased the premium editions of the game can already play. You can check out more of Wccftech’s Mortal Kombat 1 guides here.
