Mortal Kombat 1 marks the latest entry in the Fatality-packed fighting series, and it looks to deliver a satisfying fresh dose of ultraviolence for longtime fans. In addition to a new tag-team mechanic that lets you pair a main character with a backup “Kameo” fighter, you can look forward to an epic all-new story, regular seasonal updates that will add new Invasion mode missions, and more.
While Mortal Kombat 1 adds plenty of new features, the series has also always leaned heavily on nostalgia and holds onto certain old-school elements that you don’t necessarily see that often in video games today. That includes unlockable characters! While most of Mortal Kombat 1’s 23-character launch roster is available right from the get-go, there are two that need to be acquired by other means – Shang Tsung is reserved for people who have pre-ordered the game, but a second character, Havik, has to be unlocked through gameplay. So, how does one get their hands on Havik? Scroll on down for the answer…
Note: This article may contain mild, non-specific story mode SPOILERS.
In order to unlock Havik, you’ll need to play through the entirety of Mortal Kombat 1’s story mode. The story mode consists of 15 chapters, each of which takes 20 minutes to half-an-hour to play through. I doesn’t seem to matter what difficulty level you play through story mode on. If you hit the credits and don’t see the message that Havik has been unlocked, don’t worry – for reasons I won’t get into, you don’t get that unlock message until mid-way through the credits.
And there you have it! That’s how you unlock the full Mortal Kombat 1 roster. Havik is a pretty solid addition to the game’s lineup, so you’re definitely going to want to beeline to the story mode in order to get access to him.
Mortal Kombat 1 launches on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Switch on September 19, although those who have purchased the premium editions of the game will be able to play tomorrow (September 14). You can check out more of Wccftech’s Mortal Kombat 1 guides here.
