Capcom has been on a hell of a streak in recent years, but one of their biggest franchises has been taking a bit of a backseat. We got Monster Hunter Rise on the Switch in 2021, but we haven’t got a real boundary-pushing entry in the series since Monster Hunter World in 2018. Well, tonight at The Game Awards we got our first peek at the next generation in the franchise, Monster Hunter Wilds.

The first teaser trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds is set in a sandy desert biome, and features a number of new innovations for the series – large packs of monsters, a new flying Chocobo-like mount, and what looks to be a greater emphasis on weather effects (we see a sandstorm and lots of lightning). Check out the teaser trailer for yourself, below.

Looking good! I’ve often found the gameplay in Monster Hunter to be a bit sluggish, so I’m liking how fast-paced and reactive everything seems to be in this game. After the Monster Hunter Wilds reveal, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto took to The Game Awards stage to share a few words about the game…

"I'm very happy to finally be able to announce this title to everyone. Back in September, we were happy to show it to [Geoff Keighley], and it is planned for release in 2025.

We plan on revealing more information about this game in the summer of 2024, so, we hope you keep an eye out for it. Also, Capcom is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary. I would like to thank all of the Capcom fans for all of your love and support throughout all of these years. We could have done it without you. Capcom will continue to create exciting, fun games, and the best is yet to come."

Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 sometime in 2025. As mentioned above, we’ll see more of the game sometime this coming summer. What do you think? Are you already sharpening your blades in anticipation of this new Monster Hunter? Or do you need to see more first?
