Monster Hunter Movie Release Moved Forward Into 2020
Monster Hunter Movie Release Moved Forward Into 2020-October 2024
Oct 30, 2024 3:21 PM

It's been a tumultuous time for cinemas, with many big 2020 films--including Black Widow, No Time to Die, and F9: The Fast Saga--moving to 2021 release dates. But now, one movie scheduled for 2021 has actually moved forward into an otherwise quiet December 2020 release slot--Monster Hunter.

The new film from Paul W. S. Anderson, who previously directed all the live-action Resident Evil movies, has moved from an April 23, 2021 release date to December 30, 2020, Sony has announced. This will make it, by default, one of the biggest films to hit a cinema this year.

This is the release date previously occupied by Escape Room 2, another Sony film, which has now been shifted into 2021. A specific release date for this sequel has not been announced.

Monster Hunter was originally set to release in September 2020, but it was delayed earlier this year. That month, we instead got an official synopsis for the film. You can watch the film's first trailer below--but it's very short, so don't expect a lot of insight from it.

Monster Hunter stars Milla Jovovich, who also starred in the Resident Evil movies.

Sony also announced a release date for The Kid Detective, written and directed by Evan Morgan. The film, which stars Adam Brody as a former child detective who is brought into a murder investigation, is due on October 16.

A new Monster Hunter game is on the way to Switch in 2021. It's called Monster Hunter Rise, and it will release on March 26, 2021.
