Ahead of the game's full reveal, the cover star for MLB The Show 23 has been announced, and it's 24-year-old Jazz Chisholm of the Miami Marlins. As many have observed following the announcement, Chisholm was an unexpected choice.
He is an exciting upcoming player but doesn't have the star power of, say, Shohei Ohtani, who was MLB The Show 22's cover star. In a PlayStation Blog post, San Diego Studio's Ramone Russell said, "Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s electric personality, play, and love for all things baseball made him a great choice to be on the cover of MLB The Show 23."
MLB The Show 23 launches on March 28, which is two days before the new MLB season begins on March 30. The game will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Switch. The game will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass. Preorders begin February 6.
Like last year, there is cross-play, cross-saves, and cross-progression, so players can share progress across devices. There is no word yet on new gameplay features and updates, but San Diego Studio will make those announcements as part of "Feature Premiere" video broadcasts in the time to come.
A Collector's Edition will be revealed on February 2.
GameSpot's MLB The Show 22 review scored the game a 7/10. "This is an excellent sports game, just as MLB The Show 21 was. The problem is that the list of reasons to upgrade is getting smaller and smaller," Richard Wakeling said.
