Take-Two is making the most of its MLB license and, with the pennant races heating up, the announcement of MLB 2K5: World Series Edition couldn't come at a better time. In addition to playing up to nostalgic Red Sox fans, 2K5: WSE is a good opportunity to keep 2K's baseball franchise in front of as many eyes as possible. But will it be worth your $25?
Certainly the new game modes, including ten playable historic World Series scenarios, sound cool. Updated rosters are a good things as well, but isn't that what online roster updates are for? What about the playoff mode that lets you insert your favorite team into the current playoffs with all the other teams intact? Not a bad idea, but it's not something that couldn't be at least approximated in playoffs modes found in other games, including the original MLB 2K5.
Finally, the game may look and sound a lot different than MLB 2K5 after the loss of the ESPN license. Will they get a head start on next year's game and redesign the menus to look closer to those found in NBA 2K6 and NHL 2K6? Will Jon Miller and Joe Morgan of ESPN Baseball broadcasting fame return?
