GameSpot News has obtained information that Mortal Kombat team members John Tobias (Mortal Kombat's co-creator), Dave Michicich (lead artist responsible for 3D modeling and artwork), and Josh Tsui (another lead artist) have left Midway. Last week we reported that the trio were in negotiations with Midway; however, those negotiations have ended and the crew members have definitely decided to take their talents elsewhere. Tobias and the others have not yet announced a new destination.
Without Tobias (who headed Mortal Kombat Special Forces development) Tsui, and Michicich, there is a lot of talk about the game's fate. Special Forces is currently slated for a release in spring of next year, but with the departure of several key team members, one has to wonder if it will fall victim to a delay, or worse yet, a cancellation.
GameSpot News attempted to contact Midway, who had not replied by press time.
