[UPDATE] Mojang announced today that Minecraft is also coming to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in August. If you already bought the PS3 version, you can upgrade for $5, just like on Xbox One. You're also able to import your saves from PS3 to PS4, but not from PS4 to PS3 due to technical reasons. The PS Vita version of Minecraft will also go on sale in August through a special $20 Minecraft: PS3 + Vita Edition. "This means everyone who has bought Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition from PSN will get it on Vita for free. Those fluent in Sony-speak might refer to the deal as 'Cross-buy,'" Mojang said. Saves are transferrable between the PS3 and PS Vita versions of Minecraft. Plus, all of the DLC you've purchased for Minecraft PS3 will work on PS Vita.
For a detailed breakdown of the Xbox One, PS4, and PS Vita versions of Minecraft, head to Mojang's website.
The original story is below.
Microsoft announced today that Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will launch through the Xbox Live Marketplace in August. It will be available for $20, but if you already own Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, you'll be able to upgrade for $5. This offer will be good through August 2015.
There's no word yet on a specific release date for Minecraft: Xbox One Edition or any details about a possible disc-based version. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition originally launched as a digital game, before later being made available on a disc.
If you already own Microsoft: Xbox 360 Edition, you'll have the option to import your saved game data to the Xbox One version, meaning you won't have to start from scratch if you don't want to. Microsoft says most, but not all, of your downloadable skins and texture packs will also carry forward to the Xbox One version, but it's not clear which are not making the jump.
Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sold 12 million copies to date. Assuming a $20 price point, that means the game has driven some $240 million in revenue so far. Minecraft is also coming to the PlayStation 4, but Sony has not yet announced when it will be available.
